This year, the Interfraternal Council sponsored the first annual Power Play on Cancer Hockey Tournament to support cancer research at the Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. 12 fraternities fielded teams for the tournament, which was held at Ridder Arena on January 23-24th.
Led by team captains Oliver Sogard (Γ Τ 1498) and Mark Sharp (Candidate), the team from Gamma Tau was seeded first in the tournament after defeating Kappa Sigma 13-2. The team ended up finishing third in the tournament after a close loss to the eventual champions Sigma Phi Epsilon.
Several Sigma Nus were also involved in the planning and execution of Power Play on Cancer. Current President, Kevin Szeluga (Γ Τ 1485), served on the planning committee through his role as IFC Philanthropy Chairman. Tommy McQuillan (Γ T 1467) served on the marketing team for the event. He also was the primary videographer for the event and produced the promotional video for the event, shown on the right.
